Four Important Qualities of a Momin
Usually according to Islamic point of view, Momin is a term used for Muslim. In a hadith, it was once asked from Prophet Muhammad PBUH that ‘How will I know that I have become a Momin? Prophet Muhammad PBUH replied:
“When your heart feels satisfied because of any of your good act and mourns about any of your wrong doing, then know, you have become a true Muslim, i.e. Momin”
Although both these terms look alike but bear in mind that they are not and you can see the difference from Al-Quran. Muslim is a person who embraces Islam by reciting Kalima Tayyaba and with firm belief that Allah is one and there is no God except Him and Muhammad PBUH is His last Apostle. Allah Almighty has described 4 qualities of Momin in Surah Al-Furqan. They are as under:
- Humble
Quality of such person is that they are humble and free from any sort of arrogance and pride. They talk humbly and walk very humbly hence humbleness is a part of their life.
Pride is something that Allah Almighty has forbidden upon humanity as it is mentioned in hadith that:
“Pride is my cloak, and whosoever tries to steal it from me, I shall be at war with him”.
- Praying After Midnight
Although praying after midnight is not compulsory for every person but whoever does it may have rewards for it here in this world and in hereafter. Momin have a quality that they perform prayers after midnight which is known as Tahajjad. Allah says in Surah al Furqan:
“The pious followers of Allah are those who get up in the middle of the night and pray, when the world is sound asleep”
- Saying Salam
Salaam not only represents saying it to each other in daily life. In Surah Al-furqan, it means that whenever such persons face situations where an ignorant is finding ways to have a dispute with them over any matter, they just say salaam and move forward.
Therefore, it clearly shows that such persons do not want to indulge themselves in futile discussions.
- Avoid Shirk
Followers of Allah Pak abstain from Shirk. It is one of most important matters in Islam and if one cannot follow this that then he shall not be called a Muslim. Now usually there are two major kinds of Shirk. One is Shirk-e-khafi and the other is Shirk-e-Jali.
Shirk-e-kafi means to get involved in acts that are just to please other persons. Shirk-e-jail means directly associate a partner with Allah Almighty. Do remember that a wife can do anything to please her husband but for other persons doing something to get their attention also comes in category of Shirk-e-Khafi.
These are some of the basic qualities that Quran has mentioned in Surah Al-Furqan. We pray that may Allah Pak makes us all follow such straight path and make each of us have these qualities. Ameen.
