In Surah Luqman, Allah (s.w.t) says:
We endowed Luqman with wisdom: ‘Be thankful to God: whoever gives thanks benefits his own soul, and as for those who are thankless––God is self-sufficient, worthy of all praise.’ Luqman counseled his son, ‘My son, do not attribute any partners to God: attributing partners to Him is a terrible wrong.’
We have commanded people to be good to their parents … If they strive to make you associate with Me anything about which you have no knowledge, then do not obey them. Yet keep their company in this life according to what is right, and follow the path of those who turn to Me… (31:12-15)
Hence, we learnt from the above example of HazratLuqmanthat having the trait of thankfulness is a sign of wisdom and good character. It is the practice through which we can make space in peoples’ hearts and earn reward from Allah (s.w.t).
Good Islamic manners include the quality of being kind towards others.
Allah (s.w.t) says in the Qur’an:
Be Kind, as Allah has been kind to you.
(Al-Qasas 28:77)
Through Good character a person can earn greatest rewards because action based on Husn-e-Khulq will be haeaviest in the scales on the day of Qayamah. RasulUllah (s.a.w) said: “No deed that will be placed on the scale of deeds [on the Day of Judgement] will be heavier than good character. Indeed, a person with good character will attain the rank of those with a good record of voluntary fasts and prayers.” (Narrated by Tirmizi).
When RasulUllah (s.a.w) was asked about which act leads people to enter Paradise the most, he replied,
“Piety and good character.”
(Sunan At-Tirmidhee: 2004; Sunan Ibn Maajah: 4246).
RasulUllah (s.a.w) gave many glad tidings for those who practice good manners. In fact it is beauty of Islam that its followers try to adopt best manners in their daily life. They do not argue with each other just for the sake of Allah and quit fighting and bad habits to enter Jannah. RasulUllah (s.a.w) guaranteed a house in the highest part of Paradise to those who have good character:
“I guarantee a house in the surroundings of Paradise for those who give up arguing, even if they are in the right; and I guarantee a house in the middle of Paradise for those who abandon lying even when joking; and I guarantee a house in the highest part of Paradise for those who have good character and manners.” (Sunan Abu Daawood: 4800) Importance of Husn e Akhlaq.
