Ramadan: The Month of Revival
Ramadan, the holiest month of Islam is around the corner. It is the month for which Muslims from all over the world had been waiting with devotion. It is the month of sanctity and purity where you chase away all the evils and welcome goodness. Ramadan is the month that provides the best opportunities for self-attainment.
Each day of this holy month is dedicated to prayers and Quran as it is the month in which Allah Almighty revealed Quran as a guide to His creation. The name Ramadan comes from the word ‘Ramadaa’ that refers the rain that comes after the autumn season which washes off all the accumulated dust. It means Ramadan is the month in which we Muslims need to wash off our accumulated sins with good thoughts and kind deeds. Holy Prophet PBUH said:
“It is the month, whose beginning is mercy, its middle, forgiveness and its end, emancipation from the hell fire”.
Fasting in this blessed month has two dimensions, a physical and non-physical one. The former one is about refraining our self from eating and drinking and the latter one is the abstention of evil deeds and thoughts.
Hazrat Muhammad SAW said:
“Perhaps a person fasting will receive nothing from his fasting except hunger and thirst”.
Therefore, we should always remember that fast is not merely a ritual that is forced on us but it is the way of improving our self and it should be done with honesty. Pureness of this holiest month is even more increased with the zakat that is mostly observed on 27th of this month. Allah Almighty had asked the rich to give away the major share of their belongings to the needy people in Ramadan. No needy person who approaches Muslim home in Ramadan should leave bare handed.
Let this year’s Ramadan be a month to improve our self. It should be a month for Muslims, they should start with good notes and follow it to the rest of their lives. Let every human being who comes out of Ramadan be leaner, cleaner, renewed and tender. Ameen!
